Finite element analysis of alternative load paths to prevent disproportionate collapse in platform-type CLT floor systems

چکیده

Multi-storey buildings require mitigation of consequences unexpected or accidental events, to prevent disproportionate collapse after an initial damage. Cross-laminated timber (CLT) in platform-type construction is increasingly used for multi-storey buildings, however, the behaviour and alternative load paths (ALPs) are not fully understood. A 3D non-linear component-based finite element model was developed a CLT floor system study ALPs internal wall loss, pushdown analysis. The model, which accounted connection failure, crushing large displacements, calibrated experimental results then adapted boundary conditions corresponding typical residential office buildings. Subsequently, five parameters (floor span, type, vertical location floor, tying level, horizontal stiffness) were varied, their effects on 80 models. showed that three occurred, catenary action most dominant. Collapse resistance mainly affected by followed axial strength, stiffness ductility floor-to-floor connection, weight level above panel thickness. This provides approach design resistant

biomechanical effects of platform switching in two different implant systems: a three-dimensional finite element analysis.

the purpose of this study was to determine the influence of platform switching on stress distribution of two different implant systems using three-dimensional (3d) finite element models.six 3d finite element models were created to replicate two different implant systems with peri-implant bone tissue, in which six different implant-abutment configurations were represented: model xive-a: 3.8-mm-d...

Alternative Paths to Intelligent Systems

This paper examines the three prevalent approaches to Artificial Intelligence (AI), namely symbolic reasoning systems, connectionist systems, and emergent systems based on the principles of the subsumption theory. Distinguished by their top-down and bottomup mechanisms all three approaches have strengths and weaknesses. While the logical reasoning approach is precise and well supported by mathe...

Analysis of Roll Wear in Reshaping Using Finite Element Simulation

Reshaping process is a widely used method for producing tubes with non-circular cross sections. Owing to the friction between pipe and rolls, initial round pipe moves forward and consequently, it gradually formed into square or rectangular one. In practice, geometric profile of the rolls will be changed after a while. These changes would be detrimental the production of faultless products. Ther...

Finite Element Analysis of Safety Mechanism in a Mechanical Controller

In this study, dynamic behavior of safety mechanism of a mechanical controller is investigated using 3D-FE simulation. This paper is concentrated on controller of a high acceleration projectile. The controller is located in the top of the projectile. Safety mechanism is divided to deformable and rigid parts. Deformable and rigid parts are simulated in Abaqus and Adams commercial soft wares; res...

Appropriate Loading Techniques in Finite Element Analysis of Underground Structures

Stability of underground structures is assessed by comparing rock strength with induced stresses resulted from ground stresses. Rock mass surrounding the opening may fail either by fracture or excessive deformation caused. Accurate calculation of induced stresses is therefore fundamental in the stability analysis of an opening. Although numerical methods, particularly finite element method, are...
